The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has given hawkers and traders operating at unauthorized places in the metropolis two weeks to voluntarily relocate.

A press statement signed by Mr Solomon Asiedu, Metropolitan Coordinating Director, said the assembly would embark on a massive decongestion exercise to throw out those who chose to remain on the pedestrian walkways they had now virtually taken over.

They would do everything to ensure free movement of people and vehicular traffic.

Areas where the exercise would be carried out include the entire Central Business District, the front part of the Kumasi Central Market, Kejetia Lorry Terminal, PZ Area, Bantama Main Street and Market, Suame Roundabout and Kronum.

The released directed cargo trucks that load and offload foodstuff at unapproved places at Bantama to also move to the Abinkyi Market.

It asked the Metro Mass Transit buses and other heavy duty truck operators to leave the Central Business District for the Abinkyi Market before February 4, 2013.
