The Vice-Chanceller of Valley View University, Professor Dr. Dr. BUOR, has called on government, as a matter of priority, to put in place measures that would enable the nation to derive maximum benefits from the technological innovations of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, Founder and Leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana.
Making the call recently in a speech during the 32nd Annual Technology Exhibition by the Kristo Asafo Mission in Accra, Prof Buor said Apostle Safo’s invention should not be exhibition stock only, but supported from the state to ensure that the technological exploits of the man and his church would inure to the benefit of the whole nation.
“It is time for us to move beyond these annual exhibitions to a more serious state support, action and coordination, so that this country would derive the maximum benefits from these wonderful showcases of technological innovations.”
According to him, Apostle Safo had demonstrated to all ‘doubting Thomases’ that he had the competence, skills and the requisite know-how as far as science and technology research was concerned, adding it was time that Ghana positioned itself to take full advantage of the extraordinary gift of such a technological genius.
Some items on display at the recent exhibition included a saloon car without an engine – ’Kantanka Odeneho’, two cross-country vehicles – Kantanka Nsoromma, and Kantanka Daasebre, which are ignited by wearing a special shirt and wrist watch respectively.
Also on display were robots, a rocket machine, air conditioners, car engines, tv sets, sound systems, automatic switch over for generators and many others.
Nana Baafour Ofosu Gyeabuor Akoto II, Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area, was the guest of honor for the occasion.
He commended Apostle Kwadwo Safo for emulating religious people such as Cai Lun, Johann Guttenburg, Alexander Fleming and James Watt to demonstrate the symbiotic relationship between religion, science, technology and innovation.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo on his part called for a review of the educational system of the country to make it more practical-oriented so that the various educational institutions could produce the required graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge in technological capabilities to help in the socio–economic transformation of the country.
He further stated the need for the demystification of science and technology by introducing more local based materials, and vocabulary for pupils to develop interest in the field.
Other dignitaries who also attended the function were Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa, former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof.S.K Offei, Provost, College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, University of Ghana, Prof. Kofi Agyekum, Head of Department of Linguistics, University of Ghana, Legon, and Prof.Al-Hassan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Mines And Technology- UMAT. |
