The Transport Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda has hinted that a national carrier is in the offing.
Though no details were given with regards to when it will materialize, the Minster says it is on the cards of his Ministry to see it materialize.
He made these pronouncements at a meet-the-press session today.
According to the Minster, the nation is resolved on reacquiring her FAA Category One status and noted that with a 16. 7 percent increase in the traffic of international passengers into the country, Ghana is well on her way.
The Minister says the ongoing construction works at the Kotoka International Airport is to pave the way for greater achievements in the airline industry in Ghana. “We are discussing how to fly the flag of Ghana. Work on the refurbishment, upgrading and expansion of the domestic terminal for international operations has started and it is currently 80% complete,” he revealed.
This, the minister said, will improve the efficiency of handling the increasing number of international flights.
The construction of new parking aprons and taxi way is currently underway and will create eight additional parking spaces to accommodate wide-body aircrafts to meet the increase in the frequency of flights.
