| Transport Record to replace Bill of Lading |

The Ghana Shippers Council (GSC) has hinted that the issuance of Bill of Lading to shippers would be replaced with the transport record by the end of this year.
Mr Emmanuel Martey, Deputy Chief Executive of the Council, who dropped the hint on Friday said the replacement was part of some basic shipping requirements contained in the newly developed international rules for the carriage of goods.
Mr Martey was speaking at a Press Soiree organized by the Council for Journalists in Tema at the week-end.
He explained that the new international rule dubbed "Rotterdam Rules" was signed in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2009.
The Deputy Chief Executive stated that the Council was geared towards the provision of the necessary logistics to meet challenges of the expected oil and gas production in the country.
He urged journalists to acquire the needed knowledge on the maritime industry, to enable them to understand the technicalities of the industry, in order to ensure accurate reportage and education.
Mrs Naa Dansua Aryeetey, Tema Branch Manager of the GSC, said the soiree was an informal way of interacting with the press in the Metropolis.
Mrs Aryeetey said it was also to create the platform to assess the performance of the Council, and to seek the input of media practitioners in planning for the ensuing year.
She said the Council regarded the media as important partners in development, hence the interaction.
The Branch Manager disclosed that, her outfit would organize annual seminars for media personnel, who wish to specialize in maritime reporting.
