Some members of the Agona West Municipal Assembly in the Central Region have vowed to revolt against senior staff of the Assembly, who they accuse of impeding the progress of the Assembly.

According to them, some senior staff of the Agona West Municipal Assembly are deliberately preventing the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Fredrick Jacob Obeng Forson from performing his assigned duties. They contended that these illicit acts by the civil servants have affected development as well as the lifestyle of the people in the various communities.

These came to light when the Assembly Members were sharing their views on the performance of the MCE on a programme on a local radio station based at Agona Swedru recently. They called on Mr. Obeng Forson to stand firm and take decisions that would enhance the living conditions of the people. They claimed that those senior staff of the Assembly were antagonizing programmes and policies of the MCE aimed at ensuring that social amenities as well as infrastructural developments are improve. “If today, the people of the Agona West Municipality are saying that Mr. Fredrick Jacob Obeng Forson is a non-performer, accusing fingers should be pointed at those people he call his technocrats.

“He should not blame anybody, but the so-called technocrats at the Assembly. They are the people who are turning the clock of development backwards. Enemies of progress in the Agona West Municipality are the technocrats who are found riding in flashy cars” one Assembly member retorted.

Mr. Samuel Augustus Dadzie popularly known as ‘Mr. Social’ and Mr. Kwesi Quansah, Assembly Members for Nsususososo and Dwenho Electoral Areas in Agona Swedru respectively called for mass transfer of the senior staff accusing them of contributing towards the rather slow pace of development in the Agona West Municipality. Similar sentiments were expressed by other callers to the programme.

However, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Fredrick Jacob Obeng Forson disagreed with those Assembly members calling for the mass transfer of the senior staff of the Assembly. In a telephone conversation with newsmen, the MCE indicated that even though there might be some truth in what they were saying, he as the MCE had no power to cause their transfer from the Assembly. “As a politician, I have no mandate to influence administration of the Civil Service Council. If they have any grievances, they can channel it through the Central Regional Coordinating council for action to be taken on the people they are complaining about”, Mr. Obeng Forson noted.
